Alice A. (Marotta) Ebersole

EBERSOLE, Alice A.  In Cotuit, formerly of East Boston and Rockland passed away on December 31, 2021.  Beloved wife of James Frederick Ebersole.

Mother of James Francis Ebersole of Rockland and John Anthony Ebersole of Abington. She was the daughter of the late Gemma (DeLuca) and Carmen Marotta.

Alice is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren nieces and nephews.

Graveside Services will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, 175 Broadway, Malden on Thursday, January 6, at 11:30 AM.  (Please meet inside the main gate)

Alice has requested that donations in her memory be made to Boston Children's Hospital, 401 Park Drive, Suite 602, Boston, MA 02215. Donations can also be made to the Spina Bifida Assn.,1600 Wilson Blvd., Suite 800, Arlington, VA 22209

ON JUNE 27 1980, ALICE'S MOTHER, GEMMA MAROTTA  DIED.  DURING  THE FUNERAL MASS FOR HER MOTHER, WHEN THE BELLS AT THE CHURCH ( OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION, IN EAST BOSTON) DID NOT RING. ALICE ASKED THE PRIEST,  WHY?  HE SAID  THAT THEY WERE BROKEN AND DID NOT HAVE THE FUNDS TO HAVE THEM FIXED. SHE ASKED WHAT WOULD IT COST TO HAVE THE FIXED FIXED.  WHEN SHE SPOKE TO HIM AT THE NEXT SUNDAY MASS, HE STATED, THAT ANONYMOUS DONATIONS  STARTED COMING TO THE RECTORY,  SPECIFICALLY FOR THE REPAIR OF THE BELLS AND THAT HE HAD SIGNED A CONTRACT TO HAVE THEM FIXED. HE  COULD NOT UNDERSTAND THE SUDDEN POURING IN OF DONATIONS THE BELLS. 
ALICE HAD ASKED  HER FAMILY, FRIENDS, NEIGHBORS TO DONATE AS MUCH OR AS LITTLE AS THEY COULD. THE BELLS WERE FIXED. ON SEPTEMBER 29, 1980, HER OLDEST SISTER JOSEPHINE, PASSED AWAY.   YES, THE BELLS RANG LOUD AND CLEAR FOR THE FIRST TIME AT HER SISTERS FUNERAL MASS.
SHE SOON BECAME A MEMBER OF THE AMERICAN BELL ASSOCIATION INTERNATIONAL, NEW ENGLAND CHAPTER (NECABA).  COLLECTED ABOUT 2000 BELLS AND BECAME A DING-A-LING.
