Francesco Martone Obituary

MARTONE, Frank B. Of East Boston, February 1, 2022. Beloved son of the late Mary (Sarnacchiaro) and
Joseph A. Martone Sr. Loving brother of Dorothy D’Addario and her husband Rudy of Saugus, and the
late Joan F. Martone, Joseph A. Jr. and his late wife Paula, Anthony J., and Louis R. and his wife Annette
Martone. Frank is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Frank was born in Charlestown, and raised in East Boston. Early life saw him as an altar boy, attending Catholic School, Trade School and then drafted into World War II. After the war, he held several jobs until settling into the automotive parts industry, of which he worked until his late retirement.

Even at the age of 94.5, Frank was fiercely independent – still shopping, doing his own laundry, cooking his own food (although he loved the occasional take out from Meridian Market), and paying his own bills. He made a daily walk to the Maverick Dunkins every morning to get coffee, donuts for him and the birds, and a Boston Herald newspaper. He enjoyed the local green spaces, sitting on the benches, watching wildlife, the waterfront, and talking to friends and family every day.

He was fond of everyone in his building – all his neighbors, office staff, and maintenance crew. You could always find him sitting by the hallway window doing the newspaper’s daily crossword puzzle. His mind was sharp and he had a creative streak – starting with musical friends in the early days, and ending with many items he hand made out of wood.

He was ever present at family gatherings and celebrations, and we were fortunate that the pandemic lifted just slightly enough in recent months to allow a few final moments together. Many knew him. He was kind, generous, always helping, and he will be greatly missed.

Due to the COVID pandemic, private Graveside Services with Military Honors were held for the immediate family in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. Please leave messages of condolence for the family on his Tribute Page.
