Rudolph Daddario Obituary

DADDARIO, Rudolph "Rudy"  In Saugus, formerly of East Boston, unexpectedly on June 8, 2024.  Beloved husband of Dorothy (Martone) Daddario for 69 years.

Loving father of Denise Daddario of Saugus and Lawrence Daddario of Nashua, NH.

Rudy was the last surviving child of the 14 children of Giuditta (Scherzi) and  Salvatore Daddario. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Rudy started his career in automotive repair with training at the Franklin Institute and follow-on training later at Northeastern University for electronic control systems, and air conditioning. He joined the automobile business of elder brother Matthew, then started a repair business with his brother Tony, and eventually started his own auto-electric company rebuilding electric starters, generators, and alternators for the fleet trucking industry. He also specialized in automotive air conditioning repair. Later in life he joined the Massachusetts Port Authority, once again starting with mechanical work, and then moving into building systems, and obtaining an electrician's license.

He had an engineering mind, and loved coming up with solutions to unique problems that saved time and effort, even crafting his own special purpose tools. In another era, he would have been an engineer.

Rudy loved the ocean and had several different boats over the years, berthing many at the Orient Heights Yacht Club. Many fun times remembered like traveling to Bermuda in the 60s, and living (camping) in a converted bus in Maine. He had a green thumb and created unique garden spaces in his yard.

He was truly a Do-It-Yourself type taking on many projects over the years. Ahead of his time, he once created a solar thermal water heating system back in the 70’s. It didn’t produce quite enough for the house, but it was a fantastic project. He enjoyed teaching his children skills - including some fun ones like go-cart driving. He passed his inquisitive, engineering, and entrepreneurial spirit on to his children. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten, and always in our hearts.
